Popularly known as “The courtyard of Kilimanjaro”, this unique park lies on the Kenya – Tanzania border. Being fairly flat terrain, one has the opportunity to capture breath taking shots of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. The back drop of the snow capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro compensates for the rather sparse landscape in the park. It is particularly famous for its Elephants, and one can get pretty close to the elephant herds, giving you an insight to the Elephant’s way of life. It is a land of fantastic contrasts between arid and dry surroundings, and the oasis like swamps, with plenty of game everywhere.
Joseph Thomas, 1883 [Scottish explorer] described Amboseli as follows: "Zebras in long lines pace leisurely along from some distant pasture ground. Hyenas slink home from their meal of carrion. Lions, satisfied with the nights venture, express their sense of repletion with reverberating roars...the inquiry that naturally arises to one's mind is how can such enormous numbers of large game live in this extra ordinary desert?"
